Mango and Lulu have a sad story that we are working very hard to make into a happy one. Mango is a male Sun Conure who absolutely adores his best pal, Lulu. Lulu is a female Jenday Conure that suffered a major ordeal prior to her surrender. Lulu came to us with a massive infection in her foot. Upon surrender, it was explained to us that the family could not afford the vet bills associated with the care and recovery of her extremely infected foot. We, of course, took her in immediately and got straight to work on healing her infection. After several rounds of antibiotics, we got the swelling to reduce and the infection to go down. We discovered a foreign thread wrapped around her leg. We did a procedure to remove the thread with hopes to increase circulation to the leg. After several weeks of supervision, we could see she was still in pain and the blood flow to the foot was still very restricted. The decision was made with our certified avian vet, to remove the foot, and provide Lulu with some much needed relief. **Parrots often handle foot amputations with phenomenal success. When the alternative is death or pain, amputation is sometimes the most humane decision.** Lulu has healed extremely well and has FINALLY returned to her active, playful self. We do not have the heart to separate Mango and Lulu. Mango offered Lulu so much support and companionship during her recovery that we will require they be adopted as a pair.
