The Budgerigar, commonly known as the budgie or parakeet, is a small species of parrot endemic to Australia. Wild budgies feature striking green bodies, yellow heads, and distinct black bars or "undulations" on their wings and back. Wild Budgerigars are almost always green and yellow, which helps them blend into the natural environment. They are technically monomorphic, though males develop a prominent blue cere (the fleshy area above the beak) and females display a brownish or tan cere as they mature.

In the wild, Budgerigars inhabit dry, open woodlands, scrublands, and grasslands across the Australian interior, often gathering in massive flocks and nesting in tree hollows.

IUCN Conservation Status: Least Concern
