Why We Started It
We noticed a big gap in the parrot-care world: there’s a lot of misinformation floating around online (forums, social media, chat groups) that isn’t grounded in avian science or hands-on experience. We wanted to change that. Our goal with this podcast is to:
- Provide evidence-based guidance you can trust.
- Share insights from bird-care professionals, avian veterinarians, and conservationists.
- Empower you with tools and ideas so your parrot doesn’t just survive — it thrives.
- Create a community where asking questions is encouraged and learning never stops.
Meet the Hosts
Alexis Highland – Manager of Parrot Stars since its opening in 2018. With a degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from North Central College, Alexis has lived with companion parrots her entire life and has helped build Parrot Stars’s breeding, education, and care programs.
Avery Voress – Joined the Parrot Stars team in 2023. With a degree in Zoology from The Ohio State University, Avery brings fresh perspectives, deep curiosity, and hands-on experience in parrot care.
Together, we’re your hosts, guides, and fellow parrot enthusiasts — here to share the stories, mistakes, successes, and science that make owning a parrot one of life’s most rewarding journeys.
