Hickory’s story may have a happy ending, but it had a rough start. Prior to Hickory’s arrival at Parrot Stars, Alexis and Joyce received word about his situation from a local rescue. He was living in less than ideal conditions - inhabiting a breezeway between a house and a garage surrounded by the owner’s large dogs. We sometimes wonder how he survived. She loves her clicker training sessions and is very advanced in skills like spinning, waving, and even wearing a harness.
True to the species, when she’s nervous or overstimulated, she appears to “dance.” To the untrained eye, this may appear as though she’s having fun, but it is actually a self-defense mechanism. When she raises her crest, it is safe to assume she is asking for space. Baby was surrendered to us after being rehomed six times, and we are so happy to say that Parrot Stars is her seventh, and final home.
