About: Raw Unsalted Cashews

Creamy, crunchy Raw Unsalted Cashews are a high-value reward perfect for training sessions and foraging toys. Nuts such as cashews are identified in avian care literature as safe and nutritious for parrots when offered raw, unsalted, and in moderation.

Cashews provide:

  • Healthy fats & energy: Tree nuts supply monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and are recognized in animal and human nutrition studies as energy-dense foods that support body condition when used appropriately.
  • Plant protein & minerals: Cashews offer protein along with magnesium and other minerals that support general metabolic and neuromuscular function.

Veterinary nutrition guides emphasize that seeds and nuts should be used as treats rather than the main diet, because excessive intake can contribute to obesity and nutrient imbalance.

Ingredients

  • 100% raw cashews, human-grade, unsalted (no added oils, flavors, or preservatives)

Feeding Instructions

  • How to serve:
    • Offer individual nuts during training for a very “high value” reward.
    • Break larger cashews into several small pieces for tiny beaks.
    • Place in foraging toys or cardboard “presents” to encourage natural problem-solving and enrichment—nut-based foraging has been shown to stimulate mental engagement in parrots.
  • Portion guidance (as a treat only):
    • Small parrots: up to ¼–½ cashew per day (broken into tiny bits).
    • Medium parrots: up to 1 cashew per day.
    • Large parrots: 1–2 cashews per day, depending on overall diet and body condition.
  • Important:
    • Not a complete diet—must be fed alongside a high-quality pellet and a variety of vegetables and some fruits.
    • Because nuts are calorie-dense, adjust the amount based on your bird’s weight, species, and activity level.
    • If your bird has a history of liver disease, obesity, or lipid problems, ask your avian veterinarian for customized nut allowances.
