Scientific Name: Pyrrhura rupicola
Native Range: Neotropics

The Black-capped Conure, also known as the Black-capped parakeet or Rock Conure, is a small species within the genus Pyrrhura. It is mostly green, with a dusky brown crown. The central feathers of the breast are also dusky, but the tips of these feathers are pale yellowish-tan or whitish, forming a scaled pattern. The leading edge of the wing is red, and the upper surface of the tail is green. Juveniles have similar coloration, just duller. Black-capped Conures are native to the south-western Amazon Basin and adjacent east Andean slopes in Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil. In typical Pyrrhura fashion, Black-capped Conures fly in small, close flocks, often in twisting flight through the canopy; otherwise very little is known about the biology of this species.
